The unwavering resilience, empathy, and compassion of English Language Teachers (ELT) never cease to amaze. In August 2024, I had the privilege of leading a workshop on Trauma-Informed Teaching, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in ELT at the esteemed Auckland English Academy in New Zealand. This enriching experience was made possible by the support of English New Zealand and LanguageCert.
A Shared Commitment to Inclusive Classrooms
This workshop built upon the success of a previous webinar that garnered the participation of over 75 teachers from English New Zealand member colleges. The enthusiastic response highlighted the shared commitment within the ELT community to create diverse, equitable, and inclusive classrooms that nurture the well-being and success of international students.
Kudos to English New Zealand and LanguageCert
I commend English New Zealand and LanguageCert for their unwavering support in championing this critical work. Their dedication to fostering inclusive and innovative teaching practices is truly inspiring.
Drama as a Tool for Transformation
The workshop incorporated innovative strategies that utilized drama to enhance teaching practices and create a more inclusive learning environment. If you’re intrigued by the potential of drama in education, please contact me to learn more.
Conclusion
The workshop in Auckland was not only impactful but also thoroughly enjoyable. It served as a powerful reminder of the collective power we hold as educators to create positive change in the lives of our students. By embracing trauma-informed teaching and prioritising diversity, equity, and inclusion, we can empower international students to thrive academically and personally.
